‘The robberies in Madrid are starting to become repetitive’

Valencia CF could be fined over a tweet sent from the club’s official account during their defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday night.

Madrid took the lead courtesy of a Karim Benzema penalty just before half-time, after Casemiro was judged to have been fouled in the box by Omar Alderete, though many – including Valencia’s social media manager – thought the decision was soft.

Valencia’s social media manager couldn’t hid their distain for the officiating in the game, posting a tweet at 1-0 which said: ‘The robberies in Madrid are starting to become more repetitive,’ also tagging popular show Money Heist, or ‘Casa de Papel’ as it is known in the Spanish speaking world.

At the time of writing, the tweet has over 97,000 likes.

This post could see the club slapped with a fine, just as players and managers are fined for making similar comments in interviews and press conferences.

The Spanish football association (RFEF) will assess the tweet and if they decide it warrants a financial penalty, the club could be hit with a fine ranging between €600 and €3,000, according to Football España. Not a life changing amount of money, but this is Valencia we are talking about. At the Mestalla, every little helps.

In the end, Valencia could not really have any complaints at the 4-1 scoreline, after being outclassed by Madrid in the second half.

The game opened up after Benzema’s opener and Madrid were three goals to the good after 61 minutes thanks to a Vinicius Jr brace.

The game finished 4-1, with the away side registering a consolation goal from Gonçalo Guedes before Benzema bagged his second.
